Description

Artimud fills shallow gaps in hooves and provides long-lasting protection against damage. It contains naturally active agents that cleanse the area and support the formation of healthy tissue.

Its thick, putty consistency makes it easy to apply and helps it stay firmly in place so the protective agents can work for longer.

Artimud is ideal for protecting shallow white line crevices, frog clefts and external cracks. It is often used under stick-on shoes and pads to keep soles and frogs in healthy condition. For deeper, tighter cracks, try Hoof-Stuff.

Instructions

Remove any debris from the area to be packed and dry thoroughly. Artimud can be smoothed, rolled, squashed, spread and moulded. Push the putty into the crack and smooth off. Talc or tissue can be applied to prevent sticking. Artimud is also ideal for packing on the foot and either side of the frog prior to application of impression material, pads and stick-on shoes.

Ingredients

All of the ingredients in Artimud are natural and have been chosen either for their active properties or to enhance the consistency of the putty.

  • Green French Clay - An antibacterial clay that gives the putty its unique consistency.
  • Honey - Honey has antibacterial and antifungal properties and makes the putty sticky and pliable.
  • Natural Minerals - Powerful yet gentle active agents that cleanse and support natural sole and frog regeneration.
  • Essential oils - Highly effective essential oils that helps to toughen weakened structures, cleanse the area and penetrate deep into the structure of the foot.

Red Horse have removed tea tree oil from the formula because it can cause allergic reactions in some horses. Tea tree oil can also reduce the activity of the beneficial bacteria on the hoof.

FAQs

Should I use Hoof-Stuff or Artimud?

Hoof-Stuff is generally used where the crevice is deeper and able to retain a fabric based pack. As a general rule deep & narrow = Hoof-Stuff, shallow & wide = Artimud.

As a test see if damp cotton wool will pack into the crack, if it will Hoof-Stuff will probably work best, if not opt for Artimud.

Should I flush the crevice before packing it?

Ideally the first time at least. Allow it to dry well before Artimud application as this will help the product stick better.

What should I flush it out with?

We recommend flushing with Sole Cleanse but anything ‘gentle’ will suffice e.g. salt water, dilute vinegar etc. Avoid flushing with iodine, peroxide, bleaches etc. as these may damage otherwise healthy tissues.

Do you have to remove Artimud and clean crevices daily or does product stay in for certain time?

The length of time the Artimud stays in for varies dependent on specific conditions. Generally if the Artimud is staying well in the crevice then replacement is not necessary. People usually find they have to replace it every few days.

Should I flush the crevice every time I replace the packing?

Once the crevice has been flushed it will not be necessary to clean it out again if it does not get dirt in it (i.e. if the Artimud is staying in place). Artimud will stick better in a dry crevice.

Can I use Artimud in an abscess cavity?

Ensure the abscess has finished draining before packing and initially remove the Artimud twice a day to ensure no fluid is building up behind it.

Can I use Artimud under shoes or pads?

Yes, this is a common usage of it to ensure that feet stay in good condition when covered.

Do I need to protect my hands when using Artimud?

Unless you are allergic to eucalyptus oil or want to keep your hands clean then no.
